Why do we need to industrialize Li-Capt®

The lithium production faces several challenges, that we need to adress to ensure sustainable lithium production. 

The world needs more lithium than it can produce today

Today, supply is not keeping up with demand. We need to find a way to extract the lithium needed to make batteries for electric cars and other technologies. According to the The World Energy Outlook 2023, IEA, we will need to produce 60 times more lithium by 2050.

The extraction of lithium is too costly for the planet

Traditional extraction methods, unfortunately consume large amounts of water, which can make the surrounding land less habitable for local communities. They also contribute to greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution. However, it is possible to produce in a more sustainable way. Today, we have the opportunity to implement new, environmentally friendly extraction methods that protect our planet while continuing to meet our needs.

A market controlled by just a few players

It is crucial to secure the supply of lithium to ensure our energy independence in the future. While lithium resources are found in many regions around the world, they can only be efficiently accessed using our DLE technology. This method is essential for enabling local lithium production, providing a sustainable and sovereign solution to meet our energy needs.

Our ambition for the next few years

After an initial research and development phase, we are now looking to Industrialize our technology and become the leader in sustainable lithium production.

2024

Signature of an exclusive alliance with KBR contract and the opening of our entities in North and South America

In 2024 Geolith has entered an exclusive alliance with KBR, a global leader in technology and engineering, to deliver Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) solutions worldwide. Through this alliance, Geolith will leverage KBR’s technical and commercial expertise to scale our sustainable DLE technology to an industrial level, delivering projects that span from raw brine extraction to the production of battery-grade lithium carbonate.

In 2024, we are taking another significant step in our international expansion with the opening of two subsidiaries, one in Chile and one in the USA, led by our two sales representatives based in these regions.

2024

New DLE demonstration Plant

The new plant, commissioned by a Californian company will be operating by the end of the year. This will be applicated to continental lake brines. 

2025

Commissioning of an industrial production facility

In 2025, we will start building our new columns factory. This will enable Geolith to Industrialize its technology on a large scale. With this plant, we aim to respond quickly to the growing demand for lithium for electric car batteries and other applications.

2028

Ramp-up completed 

By 2028 we aim to have a production capacity of columns equals to 100k t/LCE/year. By Then, we want to be the world leader in Direct Lithium Extraction, with some plants capable of producing more than 10,000 tonnes of LCE per year.
