Geolith Begins Lithium Extraction from Brine Using Innovative Technology for Neptune Energy
Hannover/Steinitz.
Geolith is proud to announce the commencement of lithium extraction from brine
as part of a pioneering project led by Neptune Energy at the Altmark site in
Steinitz, Saxony-Anhalt. This project, initially unveiled in spring 2024,
represents a significant step toward advancing lithium production in Germany, a
critical move to bolster the secure supply of raw materials essential for
energy and technology industries.
Geolith’s advanced demonstration unit, developed in late 2023, began
test operations in Q3 2024. Using our proprietary ion-exchange technology,
Li-Capt® we extract lithium from the brine supplied by Neptune Energy’s natural
gas wells, producing lithium chloride as an intermediate product. This product
will be refined into battery-grade lithium carbonate, first in Neptune Energy’s
laboratory in Steinitz and further by our partner Kellogg Brown & Root GmbH
(KBR) in Bad Homburg, Germany.
“The start of the pilot testing phase marks a significant milestone
for our technology and our vision to provide sustainable lithium solutions.
Together with Neptune Energy and KBR, we aim to establish a pioneering lithium
extraction operation that strengthens Europe’s raw material independence and
supports the green energy transition”. Jean-Philippe Gibaud, CEO and Founder.
